Australia-based Elenium Automation is working with Etihad Airways and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a new seamless travel solution that is based on artificial intelligence, machine-learning, and biometrics.
Elenium is developing the concept and will implement it. Specific components include a portable battery-powered self-service check-in kiosk with Elenium Voyager Hub (a facial recognition camera and voice-activated biometric system), a tagless self-bag drop system, and an automated e-gate.
Announcing the official launch of the solution at the 2019 Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE) on 26–28 March in London, Elenium Automation chief commercial officer Ilya Gutlin told Jane’s that no airport infrastructure is required, “with the exception of the physical passenger facing hardware”.
AWS has provided the biometrics algorithm and Etihad is the launch airline customer for the solution, elements of which are expected to be deployed in the Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Etihad and Elenium are signing a memorandum of understanding as innovation partners, while AWS is the global infrastructure partner for Elenium. “We are able to implement components as well as the end-to-end solution,” Gutlin said. “We are also open to different biometric vendors to integrate into the overall solution.”
Elenium has already provided its portable check-in kiosk to Auckland, Hong Kong, and Sydney international airports, but Gutlin described three novel technologies in the new seamless solution.
