Central Japan International Airport Co. Ltd has selected Smiths Detection to provide x-ray inspection equipment and smart checkpoint lanes for Chubu Centrair International Airport.
The deployment includes a series of automated lanes, x-ray scanners, and computed tomography (CT) scanners for automatic detection of explosives that allow passengers to keep liquids and electronics in their hand luggage during screening. Semi-liquid foods such as soup, jam, and honey can also remain in the passenger’s luggage. The checkpoint scanning systems and lanes are expected to be fully installed at Chubu Centrair by the third quarter of 2019.
The contract includes the ECAC EDSCB C3-approved HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, making Chubu Centrair the second airport in the world to install it after Jeju International Airport in South Korea.
