RunWize comes to China

04 April 2019

Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) is to adopt the RunWize runway management solution for foreign object debris (FOD) detection, Israeli manufacturer Xsight Systems announced on 3 April.

Jane’s understands that about 120 RunWize sensors will be installed along the east runway at BCIA, with installation work to be completed by early July.

Co-located with runway edge lights, RunWize combines millimetre-wave radar and artificial intelligence-based image processing to detect FOD or wildlife intrusions, as well as to monitor runway condition and activity. It has already been deployed at international airports in Israel (Tel Aviv Ben Gurion), Thailand (Bangkok Suvarnabhumi), and the US (Boston Logan and Seattle-Tacoma).
