Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) is planning a concept of operations for satellite-based very-high frequency (VHF) voice communications for oceanic air traffic management (ATM) applications.
Under a collaboration agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the German company will conduct in-depth analysis into the benefits of mounting VHF radio communications hardware onto a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites.
“It is exciting to be invited to develop new communications systems for smart air traffic control operations based on innovative architecture, advanced and trusted technology and efficient operations,” said Bosco Novak, executive vice-president of the Secure Communications Division at R&S.
