UTM platform makes headway in UK for flight authorisations

15 April 2019

Five commercial airports in the UK have integrated the GuardianUTM O/S platform from Altitude Angel into their flight authorisation systems, furthering the consolidation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) traffic into controlled airspace.

The airports are Cardiff, Heathrow, Luton, Manchester, and Southampton. Altitude Angel also announced that the unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM) platform is operating at Goodwood Airfield. .

GuardianUTM now supports the NATS Airspace Users Portal at these locations. The portal is a pre-notification tool previously reserved for general aviation pilots. UAV operators with permission to conduct flights in off-limits locations will now be able to submit their requests to traffic controllers through the same process.
