Los Angeles adopts Aira for passenger assistance

16 May 2019

Los Angeles International (LAX) is helping blind and limited-vision travellers to navigate through the airport by introducing the Artificial Intelligence Remote Assistance (Aira) service from San Diego-based Aira Tech Corp.

A passenger requiring help can download a smartphone app from Apple or Google Play before coming to the airport, and then register for one of the Aira plans. These include a permanent free guest account at LAX and 40 other airports. Airports are not required to install any equipment as Aira service users have everything they need on their own smartphones.

Once inside any of the nine terminals at LAX, the passenger automatically receives a notification via smartphone that the Aira service is available.
