New restrictions are being introduced for recreational use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the United States.
In line with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2018, flights in controlled airspace near airports now require prior approval from the FAA. This replaces the previous requirement to notify the airport operator and air traffic control if flying within five miles of an airport.
Furthermore, UAV users will soon have to pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test before they can conduct flights.
