The Droniq joint venture (JV) between DFS and Deutsche Telekom is to begin operations in late 2019, after obtaining clearance from the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt).
The JV uses expertise from Deutsche Telekom with mobile communication networks to create an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) traffic management (UTM) system with a tracking capability.
The Droniq product will include registration and mission-planning features. A user interface displays the position of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) alongside manned aircraft. Initially this requires a modem attachment with integrated SIM card to transmit location data, although in future Droniq intends to function as a fully digitised offering.
