Sierra Leone regulator looks to CAAi for safety oversight support

04 June 2019

The ICAO Safety Fund is financing a project by CAA International (CAAi), the technical co-operation division of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, to help the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) strengthen its regulatory oversight.

On 30 May, shortly after the 18-week project began, CAAi said that it will “help the SLCAA resolve its safety-related deficiencies” in areas such as air navigation services, aerodromes, and ground-based navaids.

There is considerable room for improvement by the SLCAA, as Sierra Leone is ranked 43rd out of 46 countries by ICAO in the Africa/Indian Ocean region for effective implementation of Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
