The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) have held a workshop on 4D trajectory-based operations (TBO) and new air traffic management (ATM) technologies, under the aegis of the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (APP).
CAAC aims to demonstrate TBO technology and processes in a phased approach as it is developing a TBO implementation roadmap for routes to major hub airports. A small-scale Initial 4D (I4D) demonstration will include evaluations of a TBO-enabled flight management system.
The CAAC conducted its first I4D test flight on 20 March on the Tianjin-Guangzhou route. It is also developing a roadmap for development of all-phase digital control services based on ground-to-air datalink communications, conducting Future Air Navigation System (FANS)-based technology research and verification, and fully utilising the advantages of datalink clearance and datalink Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS).
