Adelaide has become the third airport in Australia to implement the Integrated Tower Automation Suite (INTAS) of controller tools from Saab and Nav Canada.
The INTAS solution is designed to support any tower position (local, ground, clearance or supervisor), and be scalable to any size of tower, from small, regional airports to major international hubs.
It includes a controller position with up to four touchscreen monitors displaying electronic flight strips, operational information, weather, terminal area and surface surveillance data where available.
Nav Canada provides a modified version of its NAVCANatm suite, while Harris supplies the voice communications system, and Saab is providing overall project management and system integration.
INTAS is already operational at Broome and Rockhampton. Melbourne is due to commission its system by the end of 2013. The system is being provided under Airservices Australia's National Tower Programme (NTP). Airservices runs the NTP as part of a AUD900 million (USD969 million), five-year project to upgrade ATC infrastructure, including new towers, new technology and safety services.
