Revised Trump travel ban hits judicial roadblock

17 March 2017

Federal district court judges in Hawaii and Maryland have blocked the latest version of the Trump administration's travel ban, which was revised to address some of the legal challenges to the original executive order of 27 January 2017.

This latest setback caused embarrassment for the White House, which was criticised for sloppy preparation.

Derrick Watson, the judge in Hawaii, ruled on 15 March that the revised executive order was meant to discriminate against Muslims and he declared there was a "strong likelihood of success" for anyone suing the federal government on the grounds that the ban violates the US Constitution.
