The first budget proposal from the Trump Administration, covering the fiscal year from 1 October 2017, calls for a 13% cut in the US federal transportation budget, moving some activities - including air traffic control (ATC) - away from government control.
According to an outline budget released by the Department of State on 16 March 2017, the proposal wants to "shift the air traffic control function of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to an independent, non-government organisation, making the system more efficient and innovative while maintaining safety".
