US donates security equipment to Lebanon

The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in the US Department of State has donated USD650,000 worth of security screening equipment for Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon.

The equipment includes one mobile x-ray screener for vehicles; six handheld explosive trace detection (ETD) systems; six checkpoint baggage scanners; and six shoe scanners. The systems will be used by Lebanon Internal Security Forces (ISF) staff to screen passengers and baggage.

The equipment was officially handed over on 11 April 2017 by US Ambassador Elizabeth Richard in a ceremony attended by interior minister Nuhad Al Mashnouq; ISF director general of the internal security forces Major General Imad Osman; and General Georges Doumit, head of security at Rafik Hariri.
