OK computer: electronics restrictions are eased for more Middle Eastern carriers

13 July 2017

Royal Jordanian Airlines and Kuwait Airlines announced on 9 July 2017 that passengers flying to the United States can once again carry laptops and other large personal electronic devices into the aircraft cabin.

US authorities imposed restrictions in March 2017 amid concerns that Islamist terrorists were trying to conceal improvised explosive devices inside laptops. The ban covered all US-bound flights from 10 airports in eight countries, including Jordan and Kuwait.

However, the rules were relaxed after Royal Jordanian and Kuwait Airlines tightened security in line with US Department of Homeland Security guidelines, at Queen Alia International Airport and Kuwait International Airport respectively.
