Seattle-Tacoma on 11 July became the latest international airport to trial robot technology for customer service in the terminal.
A robot augments the work of Transportation Security Administration staff at Seattle by displaying and broadcasting information to help passengers move more smoothly through the security checkpoint. Security personnel will theoretically be freed up to concentrate on critical tasks.
Audio instructions are issued in English, with onscreen tips in six languages (including Chinese).
Seattle-Tacoma will assess the effectiveness of the trial by calculating how often passengers trigger the body scanner alarm during and after the robot test.
