Ukraine-based Antonov has formed a working group – with government backing- to explore the possibility of attracting low-cost passenger airlines to its airfield at Gostomel in northwest Kiev.
As an ICAO Category 1-rated airport, Gostomel already serves cargo flights operated by Antonov Airlines, and it is the home base for the sole An-225 strategic airlifter.
“The development of its infrastructure in the direction of providing passenger services will be useful not only for the airport but also for the region as a whole,” Antonov stated on 19 July. “One of the important factors will be the creation of new jobs.”
