Gatwick to deploy improved CTX 9800 DSi

02 August 2017

Gatwick Airport has ordered 11 additional CTX 9800 DSi explosives detection systems from Smiths Detection, for screening all in-gauge hold baggage in the North Terminal.

The latest order includes maintenance support services for at least 10 years. Gatwick will become the first airport to deploy the enhanced CTX 9800 DSi, which features a belt speed of 0.5 m/sec and can process up to 1,800 bags per hour.

The new machines are scheduled for deployment by September 2018, in line with the EU Standard 3 hold-baggage screening mandate.

Earlier in 2017, Gatwick ordered nine CTX 9800 DSis from Morpho Detection, before Smiths completed its acquisition of the company.
