The Italian business of WHSmith opened its first airport store in late July 2017.
The airside store at Turin-Caselle Airport offers products ranging from newspapers and magazines to digital items, toys, souvenirs, and confectionery.
Turin-Caselle posted a 7.8% year-on-year (y/y) increase in passenger volume in 2016 to 3.95 million. Roberto Barbieri, CEO of operator Società Azionaria Gestione Aeroporto Torino (SAGAT), said that the latest opening forms part of a broader strategy to grow the commercial business at the airport. "Today the airport has 34 shops, cafes and restaurants, with 70% growth in three years," he added.
