US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has awarded the US subsidiary of Elbit Systems a contract for a tower and infill radar system for airspace surveillance at an undisclosed location in Texas.
Elbit Systems of America stated on 12 September that it will deliver “a complete capability” for CBP to monitor “highly cluttered environments”, including detection of low-level flying objects.
It is working with US firm C Speed, which is providing its LightWave S-band solid-state primary surveillance radar. LightWave was tested for two years (2014–16) at Travis Air Force Base, under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with United States Transportation Command.
