Geneva Airport is collaborating with Neste to introduce sustainable and renewable aviation fuel, as part of the ‘Airport Approach’ partnership between non-governmental organisation (NGO) Carbon War Room and SkyNRG.
Airport officials and Neste are seeking at least 1% of annual fuel consumption at Geneva to come from Neste MY Renewable Jet Fuel from late 2018.
Meanwhile, the UK government announced that sustainable aviation fuels will be included in its Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO), which mandates transport operators to include a proportion of biofuel in their machinery.
By bringing renewable aviation fuels into the RTFO for the first time, the UK Department for Transport hopes to encourage investment in the production and supply of sustainable fuel for airports and airlines.
