Air BP provided renewable jet fuel via existing fuelling infrastructure at Chicago O’Hare for the first time on 8 November, during the Fly Green Day at the Illinois airport.
Nine airlines participated in the event, sponsored by the O’Hare Fuel Committee: Atlas Air, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, FedEx, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Lufthansa, and United Airlines.
Air BP provided a blend of Gevo alcohol-to-jet fuel, which is derived from renewable isobutanol, with traditional Jet A fuel. The certified blend was delivered through the main fuel hydrant system at O’Hare. Previously, renewable aviation fuel had to be transported by truck to the airport.
