A survey has revealed that about 20% of UK air travellers have been drunk before catching a flight, adding to the growing pressure on airports in the country to curb excessive alcohol consumption by passengers.

The survey of 1,391 travellers at UK airports was carried out by online car rental agency www.cheapcar.co.uk in October. About 7% of respondents said they drank alcohol equivalent to five or more pints of beer before boarding their flight; 15% consumed three to four pints; and 32% drank one or two pints.
