Air navigation service providers (ANSPs) in Functional Airspace Block Europe Central (FABEC) and the Baltic FAB are preparing a workshop examining the causes of traffic volatility and its impact on performance, to be held in Warsaw in May 2018.
Speaking to Jane’s , DFS Manager Dr Matthias Whittome explained the various causes of volatility, including seasonality, conflict-related shocks from airspace closures over Ukraine and Libya, as well as the impact of changes in route charges on traffic flow.
“There is no overview of these different factors yet they impact ANSPs from an operational and a financial perspective,” he said. “Understanding their contribution is key to managing the impact on efficient airspace management.” Whittome is calling for abstract papers from interested parties, including interdisciplinary sources, by mid-December.
