Norwegian air navigation service provider (ANSP) Avinor has awarded Terma a contract to upgrade two SCANTER 5502 surface movement radars (SMRs) at Oslo Gardermoen Airport to a new solid-state configuration.
In 2012 Oslo was the first airport to deploy the X-band SCANTER 5502. The new-look SMRs will be integrated into the existing advanced surface movement guidance and control system (A-SGMCS) as the primary non-co-operative surveillance sensor.
The SCANTER family of SMRs is in operation at more than 130 airports worldwide. Other SCANTER 5502 contracts in 2017 include an award from ENAIRE in February to upgrade the existing Terma SMR at Madrid Barajas, with local partner Seairtech; and a contract in March to supply SCANTER 5502 to New Beijing International Airport, which is due to open in 2019.
