The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has agreed a new five-year Global Runway Safety Action Plan.
The plan includes targets and timelines for introducing measures preventing runway-linked accidents; commitments on training, data management and assessment; and creation of runway safety teams.
It was approved during the ICAO Global Runway Safety Symposium, held in the Peruvian capital Lima on 17-19 November.
This detailed blueprint is designed to implement runway safety targets already established under the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Plan.
“This new action plan is an important outcome of the detailed analysis of runway risk factors recently undertaken by ICAO,” said secretary general Dr Fang Liu.
