The Cross Border Xpress (CBX) posted record traffic in its second full year of operations, allaying fears that Trump Administration policies towards Mexico would affect demand.
CBX - a terminal-cum-bridge over the United States-Mexico border connecting Tijuana International Airport in Mexico with Otay Mesa in San Diego - processed 1.91 million people in 2017. This represents a 41% year-on-year increase, with a 44.5:55.5 split between southbound and northbound travel.
Built by private Mexican and US investors at a cost of USD120 million, the enclosed CBX bridge over the international border is 390 ft long and 33 ft wide. To accommodate the growing volume of passengers, the CBX car park on the US side of the border with 1,350 spaces is being expanded to accommodate an additional 1,230 vehicles.
