The TSA is “doing a lot of work” with L3 Security & Detection Systems to enhance the capabilities of in-service ProVision ATD Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) scanners, a senior official at the federal agency noted during the 16th Annual AAAE/TSA/DHS Aviation Security Summit in December 2017.
AIT units employ millimetre-wave technology to screen passengers for metallic and non-metallic items, including weapons, explosives and other objects that can be concealed in layers of clothing. Steve Karoly, TSA acting assistant administrator for requirements and capabilities analysis, disclosed that tests are to start in 2018 of an enhanced AIT device from Rohde & Schwarz.
