Eurocontrol and Austro Control report completion of a real-time simulation of an Optimal Runway Delivery (ORD) tool that supports optimal aircraft separation on final approach.
Representatives from the SESAR Joint Undertaking, NATS, DSNA, the Irish Aviation Authority, Thales, Naviair, LFV, Croatia Control, and DFS participated in briefings and observed exercises.
The ORD simulation combined time-based separation (TBS) with RECAT-EU pairwise wake separations under mixed-mode runway operations.
RECAT-EU pairwise separations standards, which define separation minima for pairs of aircraft, are due to be agreed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2018. They can be applied in conjunction with TBS.
